Today, we are pleased to share an important milestone in our journey.
Expanding Our Presence to Zanzibar
While ZACADIA will continue to be based in Toronto, where it was founded and where many of our dedicated members reside, we have reached a point where it is both natural and necessary to move the bulk of our activities to Zanzibar itself.
Our mission has always been clear: to help Zanzibar and its people. Over time, most of our initiatives, support, and impact have been directed toward Zanzibar and Pemba. We now feel that to serve more effectively, efficiently, and transparently, our Zanzibar-focused activities should be carried out on the ground, in Zanzibar, where the needs exist and where real-time engagement matters most.
This step marks not a departure from Canada, but a strengthening of our commitment to our homeland. The transition of the bulk of our activities to Zanzibar is intended to take place in 2026, marking a new phase in ZACADIA’s growth and impact.
One Association, Two Homes
ZACADIA will now operate fully in both Canada and Zanzibar:

In Canada (Toronto and beyond):
We will continue to unite Zanzibaris living across Canada, raise awareness about Zanzibar, mobilize resources, and serve our diaspora community. -
In Zanzibar:
All Zanzibar-based initiatives, community assessments, charitable activities, and development programs will now be coordinated and implemented directly in Zanzibar, through our representatives on the ground.
This dual presence allows us to remain a strong diaspora organization while being closer than ever to the people we serve.
Reaffirming Our Mission
ZACADIA was formed in the spirit of unity and national responsibility, inspired by the recognition that Zanzibaris living abroad can contribute meaningfully to the progress of their country. Our objectives remain unchanged: to foster, promote, encourage, facilitate, and coordinate assistance for Zanzibar; to act as a bridge between Zanzibaris in Canada and their homeland; and to support sustainable socio-economic development.
We continue to work closely with institutions in Zanzibar, to provide information about Zanzibar to Canadians and prospective partners, and to support diaspora members in areas such as financial inclusion and development initiatives. Most importantly, we remain committed to identifying real community needs in Zanzibar and Pemba and responding to them in meaningful and practical ways.

As we look ahead to this important transition, we do so with deep gratitude, joy and pride.
We sincerely thank all those who have been actively involved through our Toronto office, as well as our many dedicated members from all across Canada, whose commitment and generosity have been instrumental to our success. Through your collective efforts, ZACADIA has facilitated the shipment of containers of textbooks to the Ministry of Education in Zanzibar, valued at more than 2 billion Tanzanian Shillings, the delivery of wheelchairs to the Ministry of Social Welfare in the Isles, etc. etc. These accomplishments stand as powerful proof and living testimony of what unity and shared purpose can achieve.
To all our members and supporters who have contributed immensely to our cause—whether through time, resources, ideas, or unwavering belief and support —we have just two words for you: THANK YOU!
Looking Forward Together
As ZACADIA enters this new chapter—expanding its operational presence to Zanzibar while remaining firmly rooted in Canada—we remain guided by the same mission, the same vision, and the same love for our homeland.
