Prince Charles ends fruitful visit — MUSCAT — The most important ways to encourage young people is to provide them with low interest loans during the first two years of a project. This was stated by Prince Charles of Wales during his visit to the Public Establishment of Industrial Estates (PEIE). In this regard, he referred to the assistance given to Muslim youth in the United Kingdom through a programme where they come up with distinctive and competing ideas.
Dr Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Jamie Bowden, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to the Sultanate, accompanied the guest. Prince Charles was greeted by Ahmed bin Hassan al Dheeb, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Chairman of PEIE Board of Directors, and Hilal bin Hamad al Hassani, CEO of PEIE. On the sidelines of the visit, a seminar on ‘Venture Project’ was organised by the PEIE.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prince of Wales said that Britain started a programme to support youth projects some 37 years ago and now a successful group of youth is owning big enterprises in the country. Prince Charles said the United Kingdom will help the Sultanate in developing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by gaining from their experience and training Omani youth in British institutions to support SMEs.
Al Dheeb stressed the importance of the seminar in exchanging ideas and experiences for the benefit of the country, pointing out that the seminar aims at enhancing the impact of venture projects by highlighting policies of capital. In his speech he touched on the output of the SMEs symposium held recently at Seeh al Shamikhat in the Wilayat of Bahla. He said that the conclusions of the seminar are effective in finding a source of sustainable development for the industry in future.
Malak bint Ahmed al Shibaniyaj, Director-General of the National Business Centre at PEIE, gave a presentation on financing SMEs during which she referred to the contribution of these enterprises to the Omani economy, entrepreneurship, financing, government funding and highlighted the challenges being faced by these enterprises.
