Deputy Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Philipo Mulugo revealed this here yesterday when responding to a question raised by Saning’o Ole Telele (Ngorongoro, CCM), who wanted to know the reason as to why the government is dillydallying in fulfilling its promises of building Vocational Training Colleges in every district across the country.
He also wanted to know the time-frame in which a Vocational College would be built in Ngorongoro district.
In his remarks, Mulugo acknowledged that the government at one time pledged to build VETA colleges in all districts across the country as part of fulfilling CCM’s election manifesto of 2005/2010.
“The plan is still there. The government intends to build new colleges, or use the available Community Development Colleges,” he said, adding that until now, the construction of VETA College in Makete district has been completed and is set to start its operations next month.
“The government has started preparations of constructing VETA colleges in Ludewa, Namtumbo, Kilindi, Ukerewe and Chunya districts in the next fiscal year,” he added.
Mulugo further disclosed that the government will empower 55 Community Development Colleges located in all districts across the country, where students will be trained on vocational skills.
According to the minister, 25 Community Development Colleges have been empowered and have started offering technical education and every college has enrolled 50 students.
He however revealed that Ngorongoro district is one of the 50 districts which haven’t been researched on their need for technical education.
“But, I promise, whenever we get funds, we will do that task,” Mulugo said.
He asked MP Telele and Ngorongoro residents to use VETA colleges of Oljoro, Njiro in Arusha and St. Joseph located in Loliondo while the government works on building VETA College in the area.
