AL MUSANNAH — On the directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO)’s sail ship Shabab Oman set off for Europe yesterday as part of an international voyage. An official farewell ceremony was organised for the vessel at Said bin Sultan Naval Base under the auspices of Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al Busaidy, Secretary-General of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Sultan's Armed Forces (SAF), the Commander of the RNO, senior officers and officials.
The chief guest and attendees were briefed about the route of the ship, the ports it is visiting and the international maritime festivals in which it will participate. Shabab Oman’s tour will be in continuation of the Sultanate’s cultural approach of communication, respect and friendship among countries and ports. Sayyid Badr said that Shabab Oman has carried out national roles since it began international voyages decades ago and contributed to extending bridges of respect, friendship and peace among peoples of the world and strengthened global ties with the Sultanate.
Rear Admiral Abdullah bin Khamis al Raisi, RNO Commander, pointed out that the current tour is the 12th international voyage of Shabab Oman, which continues to add maritime glories to Oman in the prosperous reign of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos.
