Ahead of the marathon meeting of Tanzanians living in Sweden today, Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the Tanzania House at Nasby Alle 6, Taby, in Stockholm to elect leaders for their new Association, The People’s Bank of Zanzibar has appealed to them to use the services of an indigenous bank when remitting funds to their homeland.

In a letter addressed to the Interim Secretary of the Association, Madam Angela Wilberd, which Zanzibar Ni Kwetu blog saw, The People’s bank of Zanzibar begins by congratulating all Tanzanians living in Sweden for having decided to group themselves under one roof - Tanzaniska Riksforbundet (Chama Cha Watanzania Sweden - CCWS), so that they could be able to help each other while they are away from home.

"As we all know, The People’s Bank of Zanzibar Limited (PBZ Ltd) is one among the oldest commercial banks in Tanzania. It is fully owned by the Government of Zanzibar and is the only bank in Tanzania with its head office in Zanzibar. It dominates the Zanzibar market with about 50% of the market share formed of the cosmopolitan population of over 1.0 million people. The Bank does both retail and corporate banking with equipped modern systems that efficiently facilitate banking business - locally and overseas".

In the letter, the People’s Bank of Zanzibar informs the Interim Secretary of Tanzaniska Riksforbundet that, of recent the bank had expanded its online services so as to be able to provide a better service to Tanzanians living in the Diaspora and “therefore joined hands with a UK company known for its unique online money transfer services. This company is called WorldRemit.”

The bank explains further in the letter by stating that,...”Tanzanians living in the Diaspora can now send money at very low fees to their loved ones on Mainland Tanzania, the islands of Zanzibar and Pemba just in one click. The new online money transfer makes it possible to send money through internet connection anywhere, anytime and independent of transfer agents. Payments are made through Debit/Credit Cards and online bank transfer methods. It is a convenient and low cost means of sending money back home. You can send as little as you want at a minimum fee”.

The People’s Bank of Zanzibar ends its appeal by wishing all Tanzanians living in Sweden all the best in their endeavors and at the same time encourages them to work together like hand-in-glove in laying a solid foundation for their new Association”.

At the end of the letter, the bank takes the opportunity to lay bare its new online services for Tanzanians living in the Diaspora and asks the Interim Secretary of Tanzaniska Riksforbundet to inform all Tanzanians in Sweden of the low and most affordable remittance fees of PBZ Ltd. The bank gives its website address where all details are to be found as: <www.pbzltd.com>
