ABU DHABI - Emirati tourists can now get multiple-entry visas to Japan, in a move calculated to boost tourism into Asia’s biggest economy.
The development was announced by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, after a meeting with His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Abe said the move was aimed at attracting not only tourists, but also high net worth individuals who travel abroad for medical treatment. Meanwhile, holders of diplomatic passports could enter Japan without a visa from now on, he said.
Currently, UAE tourists have to provide a complete itinerary of their visit and are only issued a single entry visa.
The changes to the Japanese visa status comes as the British Government considers relaxing the restrictions on visa entry for Emirati citizens.
