Zanzibar club statue sold on Ebay

THE iconic statue that has adorned Derby’s Zanzibar nightclub for the past 15 years has sold on eBay – for the second time.
The two-metre tall statue sold last month on the internet auction site but the buyer, from Sinfin, pulled out.

Now the bronze-coloured statue has found a new home and sold for £420 – almost £80 more than the previous sale.
Twenty-eight bids were put in for the fibreglass statue but the winner is from Derby so the statue will be staying at home.
The statue has been put up for sale by the Cosmo chain, which is converting the building into a 330-seat buffet-style outlet.
The restaurant is due to open at the end of the month.
The money raised from the sale of the statue, and the blue neon signage which sold for £62, has been pledged to the Derby Telegraph’s Give Us a Break Appeal.
The campaign is raising cash to buy a new minibus for the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre, in Skegness.
Cosmos group operations director Kan Koo said the firm would make up the difference if the statue sold for less than the original price.
