MUSCAT — His Eminence Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad al Khalili, Grand Mufti of the Sultanate, opened Muitani Mosque in Pemba, Zanzibar, yesterday.
The three-storey building accommodates 1,500 worshippers and it contains six classrooms for teaching the Holy Quran and a library.
Al Khalili said in a lecture on the occasion that the Holy Quran is a symbol of unity of Muslims and that the building of mosques be encouraged since they serve as centres for religious learning in Muslim societies.
