With 37 days to go, the emirate’s bid for Expo 2020 grows from strength to strength

It’s not quite planes, trains and automobiles, but in the final countdown to the announcement of the World Expo 2020 host city, the Dubai Expo 2020 logo is gracing many forms of transport — amongst other things.
Emblazoned on city buses and Emirates aircrafts, not to mention all around the interior of Dubai Airport, is the constant reminder of Dubai’s hard fought bid which began almost two years ago in November 2011, when the city announced its intention to vie for the event.
In the two years since, the city’s government, departments, agencies, businesses and residents have been engaged in a fierce battle with the city emerging as the frontrunner amongst the remaining four final contenders, with competition remaining from Brazil’s Sao Paulo, Turkey’s Izmir and Russia’s Yekaterinburg.
Earlier this year, Thailand’s candidate city Ayutthaya was disqualified due to concerns about a lack of government support for the bid.
Meanwhile, Dubai’s bid — positioned under the theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” — has gone from strength to strength with commentators the world over both backing Dubai’s bid and signalling it as the strongest candidate. This week, international delegates have flown into town to give Dubai’s challenge one final assessment before the announcement next month.

Khaleej Times looks back at some of the photos associated with the bid from the previous two years, with buttons, chocolate and even humans being arranged into the form of the Dubai Expo 2020 logo, in a show of support.
