To put things in perspective, the president who doubles as the national chairman of Chama cha Mapinduzi specifically assigned his second-in-command Philip Mangula for the Mainland to flush out all suspected corrupt leaders in a bid to salvage the situation.
He was opening a four-day special training tailored for district party chairmen and regional and district secretaries being held in Dodoma.
“If we do not change in corruption, we will have a very difficult time in the 2015 elections, and even if we will be lucky to win and take the government, we would not be able to come back to power in the year 2020,” said the president, adding that the level of corruption among party leaders was gaining momentum every day, making the electorate lose trust in them.
Looking completely appalled by the escalating situation, the president said: “You party leaders are now the agents of fuelling corruption without the slightest hint of shame.
I only ask of you to make an about turn because if we let this situation unchanged, we will keep on facing hard times in all elections. I’m telling you as people have alternative political parties.”
“We happen to have a lot of educated young men who are dedicated to work diligently for the party.
These will have to take over from the old guards who are embedded in corruption, who are causing mistrust from wananchi…If we lose the presidency, that will be the end of CCM as it will definitely die,” he said.
The party chairman also lashed at party leaders who sell properties belonging to the CCM, such as plots and also some entering contracts that are questionable.
“I really cannot tell whether they are drunk when they sign these contracts. You fail to understand when one is contracted to stay in a CCM building for 264 years and you personally wonder whether you can live for the next 50 years and who is going to own that building!” he president exclaimed.
