By Lakshmi Kothaneth — It is the 18 of November! It is
a wonderful feeling each year as we get to celebrate the occasion with our
listeners of 90.4 FM. There are programmes that reflect the achievements of
more than four decades. One of the best moments of course is witnessing the
Military Parade by the Armed Forces of Oman. Somehow the sight of people in
uniform displaying such discipline, which only comes with hard work and
dedication, is such an inspiration!
November 18, 2013 will also be a day the participants of the Parade will always remember for the rest of the lives because of the opportunity to show their skill to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Supreme Commander. It must be ‘a dream come true’ for many.
After all when each one of us celebrates this day we are also celebrating the success of a vision that was set into place by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos.
As he
continues to guide Oman through his speeches, His Majesty this year has urged
the youth to take up opportunities.November 18, 2013 will also be a day the participants of the Parade will always remember for the rest of the lives because of the opportunity to show their skill to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Supreme Commander. It must be ‘a dream come true’ for many.

Human mind is a huge resource and while it is extremely important to learn skills and gain knowledge, but I think it is extremely important to develop the right attitude. It is very important to develop a mind that is open to ideas and that too good ideas. Who can groom and create right path? The answer is easy — parents and teachers.
The process has to start early in life too I suppose.
May be earlier in life one is given and guaranteed an opportunity, but one gets older it is the best who gets the opportunity.
As we speak to organisations and corporate who are always on the move to hire people, they point out it is the candidates with the right attitude who would be selected. The interviews are trained to find the potential in each individual and lot of times they are not just looking for the people with best education and experience but rather people who can be trained further. And they are not looking just for the grasping power. They are looking for people who can become part of the team — people who can be groomed to represent the values and mission of that particular organisation.
It is not just that, life experience will also teach you how when we have the right attitude opportunities flow to you. Is it because people like you? No, it is not because you are a yes person.
May be it because you are balanced, you know how to express yourself well in an amicable way. And most importantly you happen to be in the right place at the right time. It is not just luck; it is also plain hard work. When you are really enjoying your work you are just keener to be there and your output speaks volume for who you are!
I am under the impression that when you are immersed in your work in the right manner you do not have to really worry where you are heading because the opportunities will flow to you.
But you have to have the right attitude to recognise to know when the opportunity is staring at you. That is when you need mentors. Then again one must have the right attitude to seek out for mentors. There are plenty of opportunities everywhere for everyone. But most importantly you have to prove to yourself you are the right candidate to take up the opportunity and then there is no looking back. Each day holds an opportunity meant only for you. Look out, listen and get to know and when you do, make it yours with the right attitude.
