Dubai draws individual and corporate investors from across the world and enables them to grow “in a stable and safe investment, social and living environment,” His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said on Wednesday.
Global investors can benefit not only from the world class facilities made available to them but also can take advantage of Dubai’s experience so that they can serve their business better, Shaikh Mohammed said at a meeting with Alexander Wilmot-Sitwell, President, Europe and Emerging Markets at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and the bank’s senior directors.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the first session of the Fifth Annual Investors Conference organised by the Bank of America Merrill Lynch in collaboration with Falcon Dubai at Raffles Hotel.
Dubai Crown Prince Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Dubai Deputy Ruler Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum were also present at the conference.
The Vice-President welcomed the bank’s leadership to Dubai and wished success for the bank’s operations in the UAE and across the world.
Shaikh Mohammed affirmed that Dubai would continue to harness all its capabilities for the success of businesses run by the bank and other global investors through Dubai.
Reem Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State and Managing Director of Dubai Expo 2020 Higher Committee, addressing the conference, affirmed that the UAE is prepared to host Expo 2020 and that preparations to host the global event are underway.
She made note of the unlimited support extended by the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the Expo team and the Dubai Expo 2020 Higher Committee.
Mohammed Ali Alabbar, Chairman of Emaar Properties, in his speech dwelt on Shaikh Mohammed’s futuristic vision and dreams to see Dubai a model to be followed and a city of happiness, co-existence, investment, tourism, culture and sustainable development.
Alabbar recalled Shaikh Mohammed’s vision 30 years back and described the Vice-President’s ambition and vision as boundless. He said challenges could be surmounted by insistence, will,
determination, prudent vision, sound planning and accurate implementation, so as to reach the summit.
Alabbar pointed out that Dubai’s community is diverse, open and hospitable. He said Dubai, as a secure and peaceful city, provides a strong base for companies, businessmen and investors seeking stability and laws that protect their rights and safeguard their interests.
In his inaugural speech, Wilmot-Sitwell welcomed the presence of Shaikh Mohammed and his patronage of the two-day conference at which over 180 Arab and foreign investors and around 30 international companies from 15 countries are taking part.

Sitwell expressed his delight to the participants for their presence in the UAE and to the organisers for arranging the annual conference in Dubai, which he described as the world’s shopping centre, an icon of safety and happiness for investors and their families from all over the world, and its residents and visitors.
