Yet another milestone in
country’s development march as 43rd National Day is marked — By Bader al
Kiyumi — MUSCAT — His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, Supreme Commander of the
Armed Forces, yesterday presided over a military parade held at the military
parade ground at the Royal Guard of Oman (RGO) to mark the Sultanate’s 43rd
National Day. Symbolic units and music bands representing the Sultan’s Armed
Forces (SAF), RGO, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and Royal Court Affairs (RCA)
took part in the military parade. His Majesty was received upon his arrival on
the parade ground by Gen Sultan bin Mohammed al Nuamani, Minister of the Royal
Office, Sayyid Badr bin Saud al Busaidy, Minister Responsible for Defence
Affairs and Lt Gen Ahmed bin Harith al Nabhani, SAF Chief of Staff. As His
Majesty ascended the Royal Box, the parade column gave the military salute. The
Royal Anthem was played by the joint parade band, while the artillery fired a
21-gun salute to His Majesty.
Then the commander of parade column approached the Royal Box asking permission of His Majesty to start the military parade which began with military music performed by the joint band comprising the wings of the Sultan’s Armed Forces, the Royal Guard of Oman, the Royal Oman Police and the Royal Court Affairs which passed in front of the Royal Box in military formations. Then, columns of the Protocols Guard, representing the Royal Army of Oman (RAO), the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO), The Royal Navy of Oman (RNO), RGO and ROP, staged a military parade in a slow march accompanied with the joint military music parade band passing before the Royal Box saluting His Majesty, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. Then, the Royal Anthem was played and the columns gave the military salute to His Majesty the Sultan, signalling the end of the parade. Then His Majesty the Sultan left the parade grounds. The ceremony was attended by members of the Royal family, Chairmen of State Council and Majlis Ash’shura, ministers, advisers, commenders of SAF, RGO, ROP and the military and security units, members of State Council, Majlis Ash’shura, under-secretaries and senior government officials.
