Metro to run round the clock for New Year celebrations

(Agencies) / 29 December 2013

The RTA are preparing for huge numbers of people to attend prime viewing spots for the record breaking fireworks attempt on New Year's Eve.

The public are being urged to use public transport to get to events on New Year’s Eve and a 24-hour metro service will be on offer during the festivities.
The extended metro service will begin at 05:30 am on December 31 and stop at midnight on the January 1. It will be an express service in order to increase the passenger capacity of the Business Bay, Dubai Mall - Burj Khalifa, and Financial Center stations. The Dubai Metro will not be running its Express services on January 1, only regular services.
CEO of RTA Traffic & Roads Agency Maitha bin Udai said during 24-hour period the number of metro users is anticipated to hit 749,842 the Red Line and 359,025 on the Green Line.
RTA are expecting increased traffic around the Burj Khalifa, The Palm Jumeriah and Dubai Mall, which will be prime viewing spots for the record-breaking fireworks display attempt.
There will also be additional parking spaces for motorists at Meyden, World Trade Center, Residency & Foreigners Affairs Department at Jafliya and Zaabeel Park, and Palm Jumeriah.
Udai said that signage will show the way to alternative parking and roads.

Additional buses will also be available.
