The Commissioner of Social Welfare in the Health and Social Welfare ministry, Beatrice Fungamo, presented the gifts on behalf of the President in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
Speaking to representatives of the centres shortly after, she said the gifts are meant to make the children and the elderly happy during Christmas.

The gifts included goats, rice and cooking oil whose value was not revealed.
The centres that received them include Tabata orphanage, Kurasini, Msimbazi, Chamanzi, Kwetu Mbagala, and Chakuwama, Mburahati, Vosa, Tuwapende watoto, and old people at Msimbazi, Dar es Salaam.
In Zanzibar the centres include Mabaoni, Unguja centre of Welezo and Kilimanjaro region children prison, Sukamale Singida, Mwanza residence for old people, Bukumbi and centre for old people at Msufini, Muheza.
Meanwhile, the management of Giraffe Hotel yesterday gave Christmas presents to orphans at Tupendane centre.
