Zanzibar's Minister for Infrastructure and Communication Rashid Seif Suleiman has formed a three-member committee that will investigate the cause of the MV Kilimanjaro II ferry accident, Tanzania's Daily News reported Wednesday (January 15th).
Five people were confirmed dead in the incident on January 5th, and 15 were still missing when search and rescue efforts were called off.
"This special probe team, led by Mr. Khamis Ramadhani Shaabani, will investigate into the cause of sea mishap," Suleiman said. "We do not want to hear about disasters in the sea."
The probe team is scheduled to present their findings in one month.
The owner of the ferry has admitted to disregarding severe weather warnings issued by the Tanzania Meteorological Association the day of the incident.
