End This Horrific Spate of Bombings in Zanzibar

Tanzania Tourism Island Zanzibar: Deadly Bomb attack
THE recent shocking incidents in Zanzibar in which some beastly individuals or a group of beastly individuals hurled a bomb towards the direction of a crowded public transport service vehicle stop, killing a man, an Islamic preacher to be exact, and injuring several others, must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.
We can only sigh with relief that the spate of bomb attacks in the Isles, for whatever reason, has not resulted into a real catastrophe, so far injuring several people and, in the most recent case, killing the preacher from Tanga, who was in Zanzibar on a faith propagation mission.
One thing we haven't been exactly told or which the investigators have not yet been able to exactly and surely establish is the motive behind the dastardly attacks, leaving many imaginations to run wildly.
Speculation on the motive behind such attacks has ranged from religious to political.
But whatever the motive behind such acts, they are unacceptable much as they are uncivilized, uncouth and inhuman. Throwing explosives at crowded public places could result into hundreds, even thousands of deaths, and like-numbered injured persons, which means that the perpetrators of such attacks are downright murderers.
Our law-enforcing organs, the police force in particular, have got a big role to play to ensure the safety of all citizens all the time. It is high time they went into reinforced action aimed at getting to the real root of this spate of bombings in the isles, arrest the brains or culprits behind them and take them to court.
Such bombing incidents in Zanzibar really put a black mark on the good safety and security record our country has enjoyed for decades.
Tanzania, with its 'Land of Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar' tourist selling label, is fast coming to level terms with other renowned and already well established tourist destinations in the world, attracting thousands of tourists -- and their billions in terms of foreign exchange -- each year.
Ours is also a secular state where any citizen is free to subscribe to any preferred faith. Use of violent means to force the people to join a certain faith is, therefore, very improper and abominable.
We believe that it is with the good powers of relevant authorities to check this unpalatable situation before it gets out of hand. Let this be done now.
