ZACADIA'S BOARD OF TRUSTEES (BoT) DISSOLVES THE MANAGEMENT TEAM!

THE ZANZIBAR CANADIAN DIASPORA ASSOCIATION headquartered in Toronto, Canada, which is commonly known by its firebrand name as ZACADIA, last week dissolved its Management Team in order to start officializing the different positions in the hierarchy of the organization and  streamlining of the Directorates.

The Association has put up the following statement on its Facebook page for the information of all Zanzibaris living in Canada.

Board Of Trustees (BOT) - ZACADIA Canada, imefanya kikao chake hapo Jumapili ya tarehe 28 September, 2014 na kufanya muundo mpya wa structure yake ya uongozi ili kuimarisha zaidi jumuiya yao. BOT imesimamisha uongozi wa sasa ili kutoa nafasi ya kukamilisha muundo mpya wa ZACADIA na kuwataka viongozi wote ambao watapendelea kurudi katika uongozi mpya kufanya maombi mapya ili kuifanya jumuya iende kisheria katika shughuli zake na kiutalamu zaidi.
BOT imetoa shukran zake za dhati kwa uongozi uliopita kwa kujitolea katika nafasi zao na kwakila kiongozi ambae alikua na moyo na mapenzi na jitihada ya kuiletea maendeleo Zanzibar na Wazanzibari wote.

ZACADIA - BOT imetoa wito wa kumtaka kila Mzanzibari anaeishi CANADA aombe nafasi za uongozi mara zitakapo tangazwa rasmi.

Mabadiliko hayo hayahusu uongozi wa ZACADIA uliopo ZANZIBAR.

According to the above statement, fresh applications for various positions will soon be called for by the Board of Trustees (BoT) and it is hoped that all Directors of the dissolved Management Team will re-apply for their old positions in the new team in order to ensure continuity of programs started.

Zacadia which has gone through a lot of growing pains since its inception as it struggles to attain and maintain excellence in its charitable efforts was formed a few years ago as a Not-For-Profit Organization-cum-Community Association. 

The unending socio-economic problems prevalent in Zanzibar for a long time forced some serious-minded Zanzibaris in Canada to come together and the result was the formation of this Association which was meant to gear ahead and fast-track the relieving of poverty among the poor in Zanzibar.

In the preamble of its Constitution the Association lists its main objectives (mission) as:

[1]  To help relieve poverty and advance education among the impoverished kids in Zanzibar.      

[2]  To help people in need in Zanzibar in their day today activities.

[3]  To serve as a bridge between Zanzibaris living in Canada and their homeland.

Under the leadership of the dissolved Management Team, Zacadia accomplished a lot in line with their above objectives. To achieve their objectives Zacadia had established many programs. Among the team's successful programs included extensive tours of outreach activities to meet Diaspora Communities in Canada with the intention of enlightening and educating Zanzibari-Canadians on different contemporary issues on Zanzibar and Tanzania as a whole. Part of these tours included consultation with other Diaspora Communities from Zanzibar as well as from Tanzania in general, such as ZANCANA (Zanzibar Canadian Association), TANA (Tanzanian Association of Northern Alberta), etc. 

Contacts with other Diaspora Associations outside of Canada were also established, such as with ZANDIAS (Zanzibar Diaspora in Scandanavia), ZADIA (Zanzibar Diaspora - in America), ZAWA (Zanzibar Welfare Association in UK), Zanzibar Global Diaspora, DICCZD (Department of International Cooperation and Coordination of Zanzibar Diaspora - Ikulu Zanzibar), etc.

 
Most notably, during the dissolved Management Team's tenure,  Zacadia worked hands in gloves with the People’s Bank of  Zanzibar Limited (PBZ Ltd) in introducing low fees remittance services through the London-based company called WorldRemit. Just 8 weeks ago the People’s Bank of Zanzibar expanded these online remittance services to Tanzania from abroad by launching a new service for mobile phone subscribers in the country. 

The new service enables members of Tanzanian Diaspora communities to transfer money to their loved ones in Tanzania directly to their mobile phones. These services are so far operated by the bank through Tigo and Zantel Mobile Phone Providers; however, recipients need to register before they could receive money on their handsets from outside. Similar services are soon to be introduced to the USA by the People’s Bank of Zanzibar Ltd.

Under the dissolved Management Team's incumbency, different items and equipments were sent to different authorities in Zanzibar. At the moment one container full of school items is about to be handed over to the Ministry of Education in Zanzibar. A number of kids who are orphans are being supported financially by the organization through the initiation of the dissolved Management Team.

Whatever the new Management Team will look like, the good news is that, Zacadia is another living testimony proving to the World that Zanzibaris wherever they are, are able to group themselves together with their meager resources and talents for the betterment of their country. This is a direct result of the political reconciliation back home, which is a strong indicator of Zanzibar's political and democratic maturity - achieved after years of political bickering, backbiting, backstabbing and innuendos between different political parties in the Isles. 

 

But, one thing must not be forgotten, that whoever becomes the official head of the Management Team of Zacadia, he / she must know very well that hard days are still lying ahead for this young Association and unless some drastic changes are taken now the Association might not be able to achieve its desired goals in the very near future.
