- A Kenyan police helicopter

ZANZIBAR House of Representatives was informed on Friday that Tanzania’s Police Force has only two helicopters covering both the mainland and the Isles, but backbencher, Mr Saleh Nassor Juma (CUF-Wawi), wants one of the helicopters to be stationed on the Isles.
Mr Juma wanted to know to why there was no helicopter for the Police in Zanzibar, arguing that it is important to have one stationed on the Isles.
“Defence and security affairs including the Police fall under the Union, therefore the Isles and the mainland share available facilities like Police helicopters,” said Mr Juma.
In response, the Minister for State (responsible for Police) - Second Vice- President’s Office, Mr Mohamed Aboud Mohamed said that although the two Police helicopters are stationed in Dar es Salaam, the planes are used all over the country.

Zanzibar will get one if enough would be available for every Region on the mainland (most of bigger than Zanzibar) to have one. In fact , basing the two copters in Dar means Zanzibar is more well-covered than most Regions on the mainland are very far from Dar es Salaam and could be needing them more. I would suggest one of the two copters should be based in Tabora and the other in Iringa to provide a fair coverage of territories in the country.
