Former Dar es Salaam CCM regional chairman John Guninita spoke to the media yesterday, expressing his resolve to take the new district commissioner to court after the young politician refused to issue an apology despite being accorded an opportunity to do so.
According to Guninita, Makonda was served with a letter by their lawyer on February 12 that demanded him to apologise for abusive language he used against him (Guninita) and current Singida CCM regional chairman Mgana Msindai but refused to do so on grounds that he (Makonda) did so in the auspices of CCM Youth Wing. Guninita says there is a big conflict within the party, that there is no peace, no respect in the party, therefore immediate action is needed to bring back the party to an appropriate culture, he declared.
He expressed his disappointment saying that the UV-CCM instead of being a platform for preparing leaders it has changed to be a center for insulting and embarrassing leaders.
Despite embarrassment and insults issued by Makonda, no action has been taken by party leaders, as Makonda was being protected by to officials in the government and the party who give him the confidence to continue to misbehave, he said.
“The CCM of today is not the same as of the past, where you could present a problem and it is solved. Currently you may face an embarrassing situation which is contrary to party regulations but no one will listen to you,” he elaborated.
He cited the case of himself and Msindai who wrote an official letter to CCM Secretary General Abdulrahman Kinana but no one responded.
The former regional chairman urged President Jakaya Kikwete to withdraw his decision to appoint Paul Makonda as DC, saying that he did not deserve that position due to his bad behavior.
“CCM now has reached a bad situation. There are leaders who have mushroomed into titles and they think they are everything by denying the rights of others. They can say and do what they want and no action will be taken,” he further stated.
“I have served the party for 40 years, and I am surprised when someone comes around today and want us to leave the party. How much can they compensate us for the all time we served the party,” he demanded.
Benjamini Mwakagamba, advocate for Msindai and Guninita told krthe press conference that on Monday next week they will seek a prosecution warrant to sue Makonda for harassment.
On February 17 the advocate sent a demand note to Makonda requiring him to issue an apology and pay Sh. 100m as compensation.
Makonda replied by saying that he cannot apologise because what he did was based on orders from the party.
When this paper contacted Paul Makonda his mobile phone kept ringing without being picked.
The CCM regional chairman for Dar es Salaam added that President Kikwete needs to deal with existing conflicts in the party before seeking to resolve disputes outside.
