The John Nyerere died last Saturday at Muhimbili National Hospital after a long illness and was buried yesterday at his home village in Butiama District.
Apart from Migiro, other high profile ranking officials who attended the burial included the ministers for Labour and Employment , Gaudensia Kabaka, Agriculture, Food Security and Cooperatives, Stephen Wassira and Former Prime Minister who is also the legislator for Monduli Edward Lowassa and the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Publicity and Ideology Secretary Nape Nnauye.
Musoma Catholic Dioceses Bishop Michael Msonganzila led the mass before the burial.
On Sunday, President Jakaya Kikwete sent condolence message to Mama Maria Nyerere, the wife to Julius Kambarage Nyerere while in Algeria where he was on a three-day official visit.
“There is no parent who wishes her child to die. It is a very difficult thing for a parent to witness the death of her child, I understand the pain and sorrow you are undergoing,” Kikwete told Mama Maria in the statement circulated to the media on Sunday.

John, who is the fourth of Mwalimu’s seven children, died on Saturday at Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam after what the family described as “a long illness”.
Delivering the eulogy on Monday, this week, John’s younger brother, Makongoro, said the deceased was born in 1957 and joined TPDF in 1974 before quitting the military to venture into agriculture.
Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda was other among senior government leaders and prominent individuals who consoled the family at Msasani on Sunday. He said John’s death was a big loss to the family.
Others who went to Msasani included Retired President Ali Hassan Mwinyi and former prime ministers Salim Ahmed Salim and Joseph Warioba.
He will be remembered for his contribution during the Kagera War in 1978 when he served as a Tanzania People’s Defence Force fighter jet pilot.
