Addressing public rallies in Tandahimba and Newala in Mtwara Region called upon elders, chiefs and women there (and elsewhere in the country) to sit with the youth and advise them to safeguard the peace they now enjoy because; “if the country has no peace even the development attained so far is useless,” he said.
“I will work to keep the peace we have and avert the chaos we see in other countries around the world,” he said.
“You can’t bring development if there is no peace, we must preach peace, we live in peace due to our unity, so we must remain united,” he added.
“Vote for CCM for the fifth phase under the leadership of Magufuli and I will work for the public interests,” he pledged.He said the discovery of natural gas in the region will facilitate construction of small, medium and large scale industries which he will personally ensure offers the residents there jobs.
Dr Magufuli also spoke of the ongoing construction of the Dangote cement factory saying he will help to reduce cost of construction materials and thus enable construction of better houses and provide employment to youth.
He went on to say he is aware of the problem facing cashew nut farmers including the much contested receipt system that delays payment and release of agricultural inputs.
“There is misuse of funds within farmer’s cooperative unions, my government will eradicate this nuisance once and for all,” he pledged citing his Master’s degree in agriculture.
Dr Magufuli also pledged to secure good cashew nut prices and to strengthen farmer’s cooperative unions as key to improving the welfare.
He said Tanzania is rich in gas and oil, minerals and other natural resources, and that the country’s economy through the gas will increase the number of industries and employment.
Magufuli said “the natural gas should first benefit the people of the area where gas has been discovered by proving them with reliable electricity, employment so as to improve their welfare”.
However he warned foreign investors who want Tanzania wealth could bring about disunity among Tanzanians.
Summing up, Dr Magufuli reminded the nation that it is not electing angles to power but normal humans who have shortcomings; “but I promise that if you elect me I will dedicate my efforts to ensure your welfare is improved and sustained,” he promised much to the cheer of the crowd.
Before leaving the grounds, the presidential aspirant evoked an uproar of applause when he took to the stage and joined in a dance with some of the performers.
