Lowassa adopts new campaign style

Flag bearer of Chadema in this year’s presidential race, Edward Lowassa yesterday introduced a new style of campaigning by giving opportunity for people to speak-out on challenges ruining their development endeavours.

Lowassa started using the new style in Mtera area of Chamwino District of Dodoma when speaking at a mammoth rally held at Mvumi Primary School grounds.

The area is one of the ruling party stronghold as in the last election CCM maintained the Parliamentary Seat for Mtera.
During the rally, Lowassa asked the people to ‘speak out’ on challenges facing the drought-stricken area of Mtera located 41 kilometres from the country’s capital of Dodoma.

One of the key issues, aired by the people of Mtera include shortage of fresh water despite the fact that the area is very close to Mtera dam as well as poor road infrastructures and limited health facilities. In his response, Lowassa said if elected he will open up the area with other areas of Dodoma with tarmac roads.

He described the area as potential for growing different types of food and cash crops including grapes, hence having reliable transport was an important aspect for swift socio-economic development.
Lowassa who served as the Tanzania’s Premier between 2005 and 2008, said he managed to encourage people to build community secondary schools across the country.

“My last target was to ensure that every ward has a health centre and every village with a dispensary…so what I ask you is to elect me on October 25 for all these dreams to become a reality,” he said.
Khamis Mgeja, former CCM chairman for Shinyanga Region who defected to Chadema recently also described Lowassa as a man of the people, who has turned the impossible to possible.

“This man played a big role in the construction of University of Dodoma with the capacity to accommodate 40,000 students at once. So, once you elect him he’ll boost higher education in the country,” Mgeja said, urging Mtera people to stand-up and vote for UKAWA in October 25, General Election.

Former MP for Segerea and deputy minister for Labour and Employment Makongoro Mahanga who also joined opposition camp said the opposition camp has the ability to take Tanzania into the next step.
“Our manifesto has articulated on how we can address challenges related to youth employment,” Mahanga said.

The outgoing Singida East MP, Tundu Lissu said: “We have all the reason to remove CCM from power as they stayed in power for 50 years without doing anything to Tanzanians.”

Lissu also used the platform to ‘clear the air’ on the ongoing mudslinging campaigns against the Chadema Presidential candidate (Lowassa) on Richmond scam.

He said: “He resigned from his post in order to save the government from total collapse, it was just a political responsibility. And there is no paragraph in the Parliamentary Report on the saga that links Lowassa with the scandal, so it’s wrong to continue mudslinging him, when we know he’s not involved.”

He described such campaigns as baseless and absurd, calling Tanzanians to ignore those campaigns and punish the ruling party through ballot box.

Lissu also said: “Tanzania is possible without CCM, let’s play our last card and vote.”

Christopher Nyamwanji, Parliamentary Seat contender for Mtera pledged to improve road infrastructures in the district; so that farmers could be able to ferry their crops to market outlets.

Former Prime Minister, Frederick Sumaye also told the ruling CCM Presidential Candidate, John Magufuli that he had no power to dismantle corruption networks in the government, when he’s still in the ruling CCM.

“It is possible to dismantle corruption in the government cycles, when you get out of the incumbent party,” Sumaye said, adding that Magufuli will be just a rubber stamp.
“He can’t fight corruption when he is within CCM,” he said.
