The candidate who continued with his election campaigns in Gairo, Kibakwe, Mpwapwa and Kibaigwa Township along Morogoro-Dodoma highway addressed multitude of people at Amani Primary School in the Kibaigwa Township, Kongwa District of the drought-stricken region of Dodoma.
Lowassa said when he gets into the State House, his regime won’t tolerate people drinking unsafe and dirty water, insisting that if elected, his government will ensure Dodoma is supplied with clean and safe water.
He described the current situation as appalling with many people in the area still consuming water from unsafe sources.
“I am aware that availability of clean and safe water is a major issue in the region and its districts...vote for Chadema and Ukawa, you will see the difference after the elections,” Lowassa told a gathering in Gairo Township. The candidate, who represents four parties forming the Coalition of People’s Constitution (UKAWA), assured the capital that if he wins, he will take up the water issue as a key priority.
“Count on me, when I was a minister for water I managed to pump water from Lake Victoria to Shinyanga, Simiyu and Tabora regions...I will do the same for Dodoma,” the Chadema candidate pledged.
“I will take water from nearby water sources like the Ukaguru Mountains which have fresh water,” he said noting that the move is part and parcel of the Chadema-Ukawa election manifesto that holds: “Tanzania is the only country in Africa with a large reservoir of fresh water, but only 15 per cent of its people have access to clean and safe water.”
Further, addressing crowds at the Amani Primary School grounds in Kibaigwa Township, he vowed to improve agro-produces’ marketing system.
“This is part of the Chadema-Ukawa election manifesto, to transform the agriculture sector as well as improve the lives of farmers,” he added.
“Once I get into the office, farmers will be given freedom to sell their crops anywhere they want be it Kenya or Zambia,” he said to the cheer of the crowds.
The Gairo Parliamentary Seat contender through Chadema ticket, Salim Mpanda, said for years the area has suffered the lack of clean and safe water, despite being close to good sources of fresh water.
He urged Gairo residents to use their votes to throw-out the ruling party, which according to him has left people there to live in abject poverty.
On his part, outgoing Singida East MP, Tundu Lissu described this year’s election as a historic one as for the first time two former Prime Ministers, joined the opposition from the incumbent CCM.
“This is a very rare and unique opportunity to throw-out CCM, let’s use our ballot papers to build a new nation,” Lissu said.
The outspoken opposition MP, described Lowassa as the new Prof Saitoti of Tanzania and the Bakili Muluzi of Malawi’ and Zambia’s Frederick Chiluba, who all threw out their ruling parties.
Ex Prime Minister, Frederick Sumaye urged CCM Presidential Candidate, John Magufuli to stop from threatening people by linking the country’s political transition with what happened in Libya.
In his pledges, he said under the Chadema leadership, medical treatment for pregnant women and children and the elderly will be given for free.
Sumaye who recently defected from CCM to UKAWA said the ruling party failed in a number of ways including to contain farmers and pastoralists’ disputes in Kiteto District.
He also said the government failed to contain the killings of people with albinism (PwA) in the country.
“We will not fail where CCM failed,” he concluded.
