Dr Magufuli told a campaign rally here on Saturday that if elected to the highest office, he would make sure perennial conflicts between farmers and pastoralists in the country become history.
"I know that some few people, including senior government officials, own large chunks of land which remain idle while our farmers and livestock keepers have to share a small portion resulting to unnecessary conflicts," he said.
He noted that Morogoro is one of the regions where vast tracts of land owned by a few individuals remain undeveloped. He added that the long term solution is to have in place a proper land use plan so that farmers and pastoralists would know their boundaries."Having seen firsthand farmers and livestock keepers' predicament today, I assure you that I know how to address the matter," he said, revealing that he would also push for installation of processing factories in the region to add value to crops and animal products to increase revenue to farmers and livestock keepers.
Addressing a campaign rally in Mahenge, Dr Magufuli also revealed that he would oversee immediate construction to bitumen of the Mahenge-Malinyi-Ifakara-Mikumi to Songea road.
He said feasibility study and detailed design for the project is already underway and called on the residents to capitalise on various economic opportunities that would arise after its completion.
The ruling party presidential candidate also told the crowd that construction of the 53bn/- bridge across the Kilombero River is scheduled for completion next year, further opening the region to more investment opportunities.
"However, for all these projects to be meaningful to our economy, we must all work hard and ensure that peace and stability in the country are maintained," he said.
