More pick forms for Isles presidential race

THE number of aspirants for Zanzibar top post in the next general election has increased from 12 to 15 after three more collected nomination forms for the October 25 polls.

Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) Chairman Mr Jecha Salim Jecha handed over nomination forms to Chama Cha Kijamii (CCK)’s candidate Mr Ali Khatib Ali who used a commuter bus (Daladala) to collect the forms.

Mr Jecha also presented nominations forms to Mr Hafidh Hassan from Tanzania Labour Party (TLP) after last week giving the forms to Mr Seif Ali Iddi from the National Reconstruction Alliance (NRA) party.

ZEC chairman appealed to the candidates to abide by the laws, including submitting the filled forms back to the commission for verification on or before Sunday September 06, 2015.

Others who have already collected the forms include Dr Ali Mohammed Shein (CCM), Mr Maalim Seif Sharif (CUF), Mr Said Soud Said (AFP), Mr Hamad Rashid Mohammed (ADC), and Mr Khamis Iddi Lila (ACT-Wazalendo).

Mr Mohammed Masoud Rashid (CHAUMMA), Mr Abdallah Kombo Khamis (DP), Mr Tabu Mussa Juma (Demokrasia Makini-DM), Mr Kassim Bakari Ali (Jahazi Asilia), Mr Issa Mohammed Zonga (Sauti ya Umma- SAU), Mr Juma Ali Khatib (TADEA), and the only female Ms Mwajuma Ali Khamis (UPDP).

All candidates for Zanzibar presidential polls are scheduled to start campaigns next Monday. Islands’ Elections include Isles presidency, House of Representatives, and Councillors.

Campaigns for Union elections have already kicked off since August 22, 2015.
