Ukawa pledges improved education!

CHADEMA presidential running mate, Mr Haji Duni Haji, has said that if Mr Edward Lowassa is elected the next president, his first priority will be to ensure that the nation gets a new constitution and that educational levels are elevated.

Mr Duni Haji made the pledge when addressing a campaign rally held at Kashai Primary School in Bukoba Municipality on Friday afternoon. He appealed to Tanzanians to elect Ukawa leaders asserting that the party coalition was able to deliver the expected results. Most people want change. Ukawa is the only coalition which can bring such change, he said. He also said that quality education will be on top of the Ukawa agenda.

"We have to learn from other nations including Malaysia, South Korea and Singapore which a few years ago were on the same platform as Tanzania, but today are among the fastest developing countries. These countries have transformed through quality education," he said. He also said that Ukawa was keen to improve health delivery services by ensuring that medicines were available at all hospitals, health centres and dispensaries.

He added that the Ukawa leadership will ensure that pregnant women deliver in safe environment. Mr Duni said that once elected into office, the Ukawa leadership will ensure that coffee farmers in the country sell their crops in foreign markets after eliminating all export barriers and unnecessary monetary deductions. He noted that a few years ago, coffee farmers in Kagera region were proud citizens and could afford to build decent houses.

But their dreams were shattered by bureaucratic procedures and rampant thefts in cooperative unions. Most of the cooperative unions in the country including those operating in Kagera Region are on the verge of collapse due to thefts, mismanagement and embezzlements that have left them debt-ridden.

Mr Duni stressed the need for religious tolerance among Tanzanians of different faiths as the nation prepares to hold the general election that is slated for October 25. "Brothers and sisters we have a duty to tolerate one another," he said.

Religion should not divide us because we are all children of one God," he emphasised. He cautioned Tanzanians to ensure that the existing peace is maintained. The Chadema parliamentary seat aspirant for Bukoba Urban, Mr Wilfred Muganyizi Rwakatare, pledged that if he is elected MP, he would ensure that there is transparency in various contracts signed by the Bukoba Municipal Council.

Mr Rwakatare was Bukoba Urban Legislator on the Civic United Front (CUF) ticket between 2000-2005. Addressing a campaign rally held at Kashai primary school grounds in Bukoba Municipality on Friday afternoon, Mr Rwakatare said he would ensure that available opportunities are made public to enable business people to invest in Bukoba Municipality. We should scout for foreign markets and tap the abundant resources available in Kagera region.

We will convene an investors' forum to set the agenda," he said. He also said he would spearhead the establishment of a sustainable education development fund, with the aim of improving school performance; assist students hailing from poor families and mitigate shortages of teaching materials and desks. Mr Rwakatare further revealed that he intended to establish a data base to enable Bukoba Municipal Council residents to access information and assistance.
