Addressing journalists in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Mr Mrema said he plans to file a case to protest his constituency election results due to the number of dirty games played by his opponent who is also the Chairman of National Convention for Construction and Reform (NCCR-Mageuzi), Mr James Mbatia.
“Mr Mbatia violated election rules and played am number of dirty games which helped him. I am planning to file a case to protest legitimacy of his victory,” he said.
He added that Mr Mbatia circulated fake documents with National Electoral Commission (NEC) logo showing a tick on his voting box, which is against election regulations.
He went further and said the fliers carried his photo which was not clear while Mr Mbatia picture was clearly seen and this caused voters to think he was not contesting for the seat this year.
From dirty games played by Mr Mbatia, said Mr Mrema, a number of letters were written, asking him to stop what he was doing because it was against the election rules. “NEC and Ethics committee wrote letters to Mr Mbatia, warning him to stop dirty games of displaying his fliers to churches and mosques which was against the election rules,” he disclosed.
In some areas, said Mr Mrema, voters were threatened if they would not vote for Mr Mbatia they would suffer because UKAWA presidential candidate was expected to win the election, claiming the utterance made voters not vote for Mr Mrema.
Mrema showed his gratitude to the President-Elect, Dr John Pombe Magufuli, denying some rumours that he is not in good terms with his party’s presidential aspirant Mr Maximilian Lyimo. Some sections of the media have quoted Mr Lyimo urging Mr Magufuli to give equal chance and work close with the opposition to bring about development in the country.
