World leaders hail Magufuli victory!

MESSAGES of congratulations from a number of heads of state to President-Elect, Dr John Magufuli, following his election victory continued to be received in Dar es Salaam. Dr Magufuli will be sworn-in today as the fifth Union President at the Uhuru Stadium in the city.

A statement issued by the Directorate of Presidential Communications in Dar es Salaam quoted Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame as affirming his stance towards strengthening cooperation between Rwanda and Tanzania.

“I wish to take this opportunity to assure you on our stance to maintain our relations and cooperation between the two nations and people,” read part of the statement. It further quoted President of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Mr Abdel Aziz Mohamed, as heaping praise on Dr Magufuli for being elected as head of state.

“I wish you (President-Elect Magufuli) great success while exercising your duties. We are certain that under your wise leadership, Tanzania will keep on going forward to attain development and welfare,” he said.

The two presidents join other leaders in the world, including UN Secretary-General Ban Kimoon, former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have also sent congratulatory messages to Dr Magufuli.

Meanwhile, the CCM Elders Council in Dar es Salaam has applauded Dr Magufuli and his running mate, Ms Samia Suluhu Hassan, for being trusted and elected to the country’s top positions. Moreover, the council has also congratulated outgoing President Jakaya Kikwete for ensuring the sustainability of peace during and after the election process.

Addressing journalists in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the councils’ Secretary General, Sheikh Mohamed Mtulia, said they have no doubt with the administrative capability, integrity and experience possessed by the two, urging them to implement all promises that are highlighted in the CCM election manifesto. “We believe that he will take Tanzania to extra miles ahead.

The two need our cooperation in each and everything that they will be doing for the betterment of our county,” he said, calling upon the general public to put aside the political differences that emerged during the elections.

“The election is over and Tanzania has got its own elected leaders. Therefore, it is the time to resume consolidating our unity and solidarity in line with pushing national development forward for the betterment of the country. “Mr Kikwete did a very good job as president.

We appreciate his contribution in boosting national development. He also made numerous efforts to hold together the country despite various challenges and threats that arose,” he noted.

According to him, the council is not expecting to see any kind of violence or instability to be created by some people who are said not to be satisfied with the election results and instead they have to follow legal procedures as addressed in the constitution.

Mr Mtulia said there was no need for politicians to stick on propagating about disunity and spreading fear among the public after losing elections, urging that the best way is to seek their rights through legal channels and authorised institutions.

“We wish them all the best in their new responsibility. The council is ready to cooperate with them in each and everything that will require our support. They have also to work together with other elders’ councils all over the country,” he added.
