A CHINESE firm, China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC), has expressed interest in establishing relations with Zanzibar, particularly in areas of developing Oil and Natural gas in the islands.
In his welcoming message to the CNOOC at the State House yesterday, President, Ali Mohammed Shein said it is a fresh effort that is tailored to boost Zanzibar’s economy. “We have been struggling to achieve our economic development goals since the 1964 revolution.
Our relations with China have remained good and strong,” Dr Shein informed the delegation from CNOOC which has its headquarters in Beijing. He told CNOOC officers that Zanzibar would be happy to have the relations at this period of developing its energy sector enhanced in a quest to jack up economic growth.
The delegation was accompanied to the State House by the Chinese Consular General in Zanzibar, Mr Xie Yunliang.
“We are short of skilled labour force, therefore our relations should include having experts to help us, alongside increased training opportunities for Zanzibaris so that we meet our goals,” Dr Shein said.
