Addressing reporters in Dar es Salaam, the retired judge said by finding solutions for the irregularities that led to the nullification of the polls, it will help ZEC to avoid facing the same problems during elections.
“Finding solutions to irregularities mentioned by ZEC chairman, Mr Jecha Salim Jecha when nullifying Zanzibar presidential elections will help the commission to carry out fair and free elections,” he said.
In his opinion, he advised ZEC to speed up its re-election process as lacking of legitimate government undermines the country’s development and he did not hesitate to congratulate Zanzibaris for the calmness they are showing and urged them to continue being calm as national leaders negotiate on how to address the situation.He went further and advised national leaders responsible in handling Zanzibar matter to use legal means and wisdom as the nature of the problem itself is a constitutional one.
Judge Bomani advised the First Vice President of Zanzibar, Maalim Seif Sharif Hamad who is also the presidential aspirant from opposition party Civic United Front (CUF), to participate in the re-election after ZEC announces a date for it.
He also urged all aspirants to observe general election rules and regulations in order to avoid any disputes as it was for the October 25, general election. Judge Bomani asked the government to continue with the process of formulating a new constitution soon after Zanzibar’s re-election as the new constitution inevitable now.
