11th Parliament begins business today

The National Assembly meetings resume today in Dodoma with legislators expected to debate President John Magufuli’s eleventh parliament inauguration speech.
 
According to the schedule, the parliament will spend three days deliberating the inaugural speech of the Head of State delivered on 20th November last year.
 
Members of Parliament will also debate and approve the government’s framework of the second five year development plan 2016/17-2020/21. It will take the House at least four days from Monday next week to debate and approve the plan.  
 
Briefing journalists yesterday in Dodoma the National Assembly Head of Information, Owen Mwandumbya said the meeting will also be preceded by the swearing in of the new members of the House.
 
Some of those to be sworn in include four ministers and a deputy minister who were recently appointed and subsequent nomination to parliament by President John Magufuli.  They are Minister for Finance Dr Philip Mpango, Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof Joyce Ndalichako and Minister for Foreign Affairs, East Africa, Regional and International Cooperation, Dr Augustine Mahiga.
 
Others are Minister for Works, Transport and Communication, Prof Makame Mbarawa and deputy minister in the prime minister’s office responsible for policy coordination, parliamentary affairs, employment and persons with physical disabilities, Dr Abdallah Possi.
 
During the meeting, the legislators will also conduct election of the three parliament chairpersons who assist the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker in leading parliamentary meetings. They will also select representatives to the regional and international parliaments. 
 
About 156 questions are expected to be asked by Members of Parliament and to be answered by responsible ministries.  At least 18 questions will be asked during the Prime Minister’s instant question session normally held every Thursday morning.
