Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg share a picture of Facebook's sixth data centre in Clonee, Ireland which he says will be the most advanced and energy efficient in the world.
Introducing the social network's second European data centre, he said, "I'm proud to share that Facebook's sixth data centre is now under construction in Clonee, Ireland. This will be our second European data centre, after Luleå in Sweden."
Data centres deliver all of Facebook's services to the millions of users. Of course, they are some of the most complex machines created.
Clonee Data Centre is slated to be one of the "most advanced and energy efficient data centres in the world", Zuckerberg added. It will feature the latest server, storage and network designs developed through the Open Compute Project, and will be powered by 100 per cent renewable energy.
With always a quirk to spare, he cited, "One interesting engineering detail is that we're cooling the facility with outdoor air, but because this is near the Irish Sea we'll be using an indirect air cooling process to filter the salt from the air."
