THE 680- metre Kigamboni Bridge will start to be used on March this year, the government said in Dar es Salaam.
Also, in a bid to reduce congestion in the city, the government is considering the possibility of connecting the 240bn/- worth Kigamboni Bridge with Charambe, Mlandizi to Chalinze roads.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication Mr Joseph Nyamhanga directed the construction supervisor to ensure the works are completed by mid February ready for use in March.
“Make sure that motorists start using the bridge by March this year to ease them from hassles of congestion at Magogoni area,” he told the construction supervisor.
Similarly, he directed the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Project Manager, John Msemo to recruit serious agent to supervise and operate the project. Construction of Kigamboni bridge project is being supervised by NSSF, Tanzania Roads Agency (TANROAD) and the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication. The cross-sea bridge, which connects Kurasini and Kigamboni areas in Tanzania’s commercial capital Dar es Salaam, is under construction by China Railway Construction Engineering Group (CRCEG) and China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group (CRMBEG). Once completed, the bridge will contribute to the socioeconomic development of Kigamboni, making it attractive to investors.
Also after its completion, the bridge will offer people one more choice to travel between the two areas which are being divided by a narrow gulf.
The bridge will connect to an approach road of about 1.0 km that will cross the TAZARA Railway line to the north and will intersect with Mandela Road. On the Kigamboni side the bridge will connect to an approach road of about 1.5 km that will intersect with the Kigamboni Ferry - Kibada Road.
