PRESIDENT Dr Ali Mohamed Shein has said that graduates from universities need to apply their skills in research in various areas, to speed up development.

“Good research helps in planning and accelerates changes. Remain active in researching after graduation,” said Dr Shein in his speech at the 15th graduation ceremony of ‘Dr Abdulrahman Al-Sumait Memorial University’ in the municipality.

In his speech, read on his behalf by Second Vice- President Ambassador Seif Ali Iddi, he emphasized on research because many areas of development still have insufficient information. “I commend private universities for narrowing the gap of qualified teachers in our schools.

We are heading towards having sufficient teachers. But let us also focus in researches that will lead us to better planning and development,” said Dr Shein in his speech. A total of 686 students were presented their first degrees before Dr Shein congratulated them for hard work and asked the graduates to help shape the islands morally. He advised the graduates to share their knowledge with others by teaching and working in development groups such as SACCOS, and VIKOBA, and the government is ready to provide support through its economic empowerment funds.

“Do not wait for employment from the government. Just employ yourself by being innovative and start up projects. The government is ready to support your workable projects,” said Dr Shein.

Acting Head of the University, Professor Mr Hamed Rashid Hikmany said his institute has been recording admirable achievements in overall performance leading to qualified graduates ready to serve people.
