State lobbies for employment of Zanzibaris, disabled

THERE
is need for all government institutions to manage diversity in workplaces as part of the entire organization’s culture and good governance.

Minister of State in the President’s Office (Good Governance and Public Service Management), Ms Angella Kairuki made the call in Dar es Salaam on Friday during her familiarization tour at the Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF).

Ms Kairuki pointed out that recruitment of staffs in any government institutions should consider gender and people with disabilities regardless of their culture and ethnic origin.

“Diversity management requires that all organizations acquire representation of gender, people with disabilities and employees from Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar,” she said.

She directed TASAF in its next recruitment to ensure people with disabilities and Zanzibar are considered for positions in the organization. The directive was made after the minister wanted to know whether TASAF possessed employees from Zanzibar and people with disabilities.

“Representation from Zanzibar in implementation of the nationwide programme is vital, therefore you should consider this factor in overcoming any union challenges,” she said.

On his part, the Managing Director of TASAF, Mr Ladislaus Mwamanga, concurred with the minister’s directive, pledging to give a chance to the intended groups.

“It is true that the organization does not have workers with disabilities, but we have had them on temporary basis from time to time in the different projects designed for the programme,” said Mr Mwamanga.
