Thus, if you're strapped for cash but need a short break, you can use this information to plan out your next trip. Now on its seventh month this year, the Backpacker Index follows a simple formula. The average price is determined by what is called a 'Daily Total'. The Daily Total includes a good and cheap hostel stay, 3 meals, two public transport rides, one paid attraction and an 'entertainment fund' on the side.Taking the top spot is Pokhara, Nepal where you can only spend about $18.15 (Dh66) per day. It's followed by Hanoi and Saigon in the second and third spot. India and the Philippines also figure in the top 10 list of cheapest destinations with travellers only spending $20.53 (Dh75) in Goa and $21.25 (Dh78) in Manila. You can find the top 10 below.

The cheapest European country you could visit is Bucharest, Romania at $24.92 (Dh91).
On the other end of the spectrum, Zurich, Switzerland is the most expensive city to visit at $131.9 per day (Dh484). And if you're planning a UAE trip, Dubai is cheaper than Abu Dhabi with Dubai at $76.99 and Abu Dhabi at $80.32 per day.
