INDIA: This Indian temple is decorated with $15,500,000 cash!

  • Even as the space inside the temple is running out, the tradition continues.
Visiting the Mahalaxmiji temple in Madhya Pradesh, India is no ordinary experience for the devotees. A look at the walls of the temple leaves the visitors awestruck as every inch remains covered with cash.

According to the NDTV, the temple is covered with cash worth Rs 100 crore (USD 15,500,000). Every Diwali, devotees hand over cash, jewellery and other values to the head priest. The valuables are kept in the temple. Even as the space inside the temple is running out, the tradition continues.

"I have been visiting the Mahalaxmiji temple and for six years now and I'm very happy. Whatever I've wished for in this temple has come true," Mamta Porwal, a devotee told the news channel. The head priest of the temple, Sanjay, said that the value of the cash, jewellery and other valuables is worth around Rs 100 crore. "Devotees come from faraway places to give their valuables for the occasion of Diwali. However, we are running out of space to keep the money inside the temple now."

Due to the huge number of valuables kept in the temple, security arrangements are made by the police for security.

"The amount of the valuables in the temple is too high. To ensure nobody steals the money that is kept here, we have deployed police personnel who monitors the temple continuously," says Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Pradeep Singh.
