- Sologamy is catching on.
The 40-year-old fitness trainer from Italy had told her family that if she didn't find "the one" by the time she turns 40, she would marry herself, according to La Repubblica.
In turning 40 and without having found her soulmate, Mesi decided to go for sologamy - the growing global phenomenon in which a person enters into wedlock with oneself.
Mesi's family and friends attended the self-marriage ceremony, where she said "I do" to herself becoming the first Italian woman to marry herself.
How did the idea of sologamy strike her? It was two years back that her 12-year-long relationship ended abruptly. It was this that prompted her to take the bold step."I firmly believe that each of us must first of all love ourselves. You can have a fairy tale even without the prince (charming)," she reportedly told the Telegraph.
However, the self-marriage doesn't mean she has stopped her 'perfect mate' pursuit. She says, "If one day I find a man with whom I can plan a future I'll be happy, but my happiness does not depend on him."
The self-marriage is over. And for her honeymoon, Mesi made it to Egypt all by herself. That's the way to embark on a new journey!
