Steel gas cylinders banned in Dubai community!

• Community had banned steel cylinders after a gas leak blast in 2016 left one woman dead.

Steel liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder distributors will be "prohibited" from entering Dubai's Al Khail Gate from December 15, the community's management has told residents. The management had partnered with Emirates Gas earlier to supply only composite cylinders that is said to be "explosion-proof".

"These cylinders are a first in the UAE and have been approved by the Dubai Civil Defence," the management told residents in a mailer. "In case you have not registered already for the LPG composite cylinders, we encourage you do to so to avoid any disruption." The community had banned steel cylinders after a gas leak blast in August 2016 left one woman dead and injured her three-month-old baby and another woman.

As part of the initiative, Al Khail Gate flats are equipped with "several safety features" to protect residents from risks related to gas leaks. These include a leak detection system connected to the Dubai Civil Defence.

"The LPG system provided in your house is also covered under a comprehensive annual maintenance schedule, provided free of cost, to ensure proper functioning and integrity of the system," Al Khail Gate management added.
