SECURITY INTERNATIONAL UPDATES IN THIS WEEK!


NIGERIA
At least 65 people killed by suspected Islamists:
At least 65 people died in an attack by suspected Islamists on a group returning from a funeral in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno region. The assailants killed 21 people returning and another 44 people when they tried to regroup to defend themselves.

TANZANIA
Tanzanian Police Arrest Journalist Erick Kabendera:
Mr Kabendera, a freelancer who writes for various local and international publications has been arrested by Tanzania law enforcers after he failed to honour a summon before them over his citizenship which is in doubt.

GERMANY
Man pushes boy in front of train, killing him:
A 40-year-old Eritrean man killed an eight-year-old boy on Monday by pushing him in front of an oncoming train at Frankfurt’s main train station in Germany. The man also pushed the boy’s mother, but she survived. Police were unaware of any connection between the man and the victims and his motive was unclear. The suspect is in lawful custody.


LIBYA
Five killed in air strike on government-backed Libya hospital:
Five doctors were killed and at least eight medical personnel injured late on Sunday in an air strike in Libya on a field hospital run by the internationally recognized Tripoli government. Libya has been driven by violence since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The eastern Libyan National Army under Khalifa Haftar has been trying to take Tripoli from forces allied to the U.N.-backed Government of National Accord (GNA), but the LNA offensive has bogged down on the capital’s outskirts.

BRAZIL
Prison riot in Brazil leaves 16 inmates decapitated and dozens more killed:
At least 57 people were killed, including 16 who were decapitated, during a vicious gang battle that erupted in a prison in northern Brazil on Monday morning. The unrest is reported to have begun when a local gang stormed a wing of the facility in Para state controlled by a rival group. Most of the victims are believed to have died from asphyxiation, after gang members set fire to part of the prison complex.

SUDAN
Sudan protest leaders cancel talks with generals:
Negotiators for Sudan's protest movement cancelled Tuesday planned talks with the country's ruling generals citing they were visiting a town where five teenaged protesters were killed yesterday. Negotiations were on the back of signing a power-sharing agreement.
