Previous similar aircrafts that landed in Zanzibar were at Presidential levels in 1996 carrying President of Islamic Republic of Iran Rafsanjani & in 2017 carrying the King of Morroco. This first ever commercial Boeing 747 set history in Tourism today 27th October 2019 in Zanzibar whereby the Airport's Authority, Immigration and all other relevant Authorities worked tirelessly & hand in hand for the successful arrival of this big aircraft that was well received with Water Gun Salute from the Fire Authority of Zanzibar.
The event was well attended and celebrations all around in the presence of The Minister of State in President's Office Hon. ISSA Haji Ussi and Hon. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Minister responsible for Information, Tourism and Heritage who was part of the lead delegation to secure the Russian deal for the ZANZIBAR Government. Other key players were Deput Tanzanian Embassies in Russia, Malaysia & India.
The next expected arrival is of the Kazakhstan delegation expected to arrive in Zanzibar on 14th November 2019. The arrival of this Russian Flight is a testimony of ZANZIBAR'S Government focus on raising the Tourism Standards of Zanzibar globally, as a major contributor to the economy of Zanzibar which has surpassed all the set targets in the Tourism sector.
With this weekly flight of 525, it's expected to reach 25,000 Tourist a year directly from Russia and economy of 15bn into the Zanzibar economy.
