The Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Emmanuel Nchimbi, has announced his decision to retire from politics and public service.
Nchimbi said today, August 25, 2026, he has written a letter to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, informing him about his decision and his intention to resign from the position of Vice President.
He said his resignation will officially begin on September 4, 2026, explaining that he made the decision considering the requirements of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania.
Nchimbi explained that on August 27, 2025, he promised President Samia that he would help him and the nation with all his ability and loyalty, while also promising to leave the position if the President saw fit.
“Without a doubt, Hon. President desires change, so I have decided to fulfill my promise,” Nchimbi said.
He also thanked President Samia and the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) for the trust they have shown him, while thanking Tanzanians for the cooperation they have given him throughout his service in public service.
Nchimbi emphasized that together with retiring from politics and public service, he will continue to be a good citizen of Tanzania.
