The Minister of State in the President’s Office, State House, responsible for Politics and Social Relations, Hon. Masoud Ali Mohammed, has announced that the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar plans to establish a Diaspora Forum aimed at enabling Tanzanians living abroad to participate more actively in Zanzibar’s development efforts.
Speaking on November 2, 2026, during a meeting held at State House to discuss diaspora development matters, Minister Masoud said the proposed forum would provide an important platform for listening to the challenges facing Tanzanians living overseas, exchanging ideas and exploring practical solutions in collaboration with the Government.
He explained that the forum would also provide members of the diaspora with an opportunity to present their views and recommendations on how best to strengthen their participation in Zanzibar’s development plans and strategies.
Furthermore, the Minister urged members of the diaspora currently in Zanzibar to serve as goodwill ambassadors to their counterparts living abroad by promoting Zanzibar and highlighting the various opportunities available, including development projects and investment prospects.
Minister Masoud also encouraged them to work closely with the Government in sharing knowledge and skills with young people, enabling the younger generation to use their abilities to become self-employed, establish businesses and improve their livelihoods.
Speaking on investment, the Minister called upon members of the diaspora to continue investing in various sectors of the economy, emphasizing that their knowledge, skills and international experience could make a significant contribution to the country's economic and social development.
Minister Masoud commended the Zanzibar Department of International Cooperation and Diaspora Coordination for initiating an independent Diaspora Forum that would serve as a platform for gathering, listening to and discussing the views and recommendations of diaspora members on various development-related matters.
He stressed the importance of the diaspora continuing to identify new development opportunities and working closely with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, noting that such cooperation would help strengthen investment and stimulate economic and social progress.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Zanzibar Department of International Cooperation and Diaspora Coordination, Haji Gora, said the forum would provide members of the diaspora with an opportunity to make their voices heard, present their opinions and raise the challenges they face so that these matters could be addressed in cooperation with the Government.
He further emphasized that cooperation between the diaspora and the Government is essential in promoting Zanzibar internationally, attracting investment and introducing fresh ideas that would help accelerate the country's development efforts.
