ABU DHABI — The Abu Dhabi International Airport was named the best in the Middle East by the Airports Council International (ACI), followed by the Dubai International Airport.

The results, announced on Saturday by ACI in Canada, were based on ACI’s Airport Service Quality Survey (ASQ), which gauges passenger satisfaction.

Abu Dhabi International Airport had the biggest overall improvement in ASQ satisfaction results in the region for 2012. The airport excelled in categories that measure operational efficiency and quality of service, scoring 4.40 in the ASQ indicators for 2012, up from 4.31 in 2011, to place the airport first in the Middle East. It was ranked second last year — a position now held by Dubai.
“Superior customer service remains one of the most important differentiators in the increasingly competitive airport industry. I am delighted to see longstanding favourites take home ASQ awards as it is testament to the growing and accepted wisdom in the airport community that maintain that customer service excellence is central to a winning business strategy,” said ACI World director-general Angela Gittens.
“It is an honour to have achieved this ranking through the opinions of millions of visitors to Abu Dhabi International Airport ... as their testaments to the quality of service is an accolade that (Abu Dhabi Airport’s Company) has been striving to achieve,” ADAC chairman Ali Majed Al Mansoori said.
Since its inception in 2006, the ASQ Awards have become a benchmark for airports passenger satisfaction worldwide, with over 275 participating airports.
