Park Hyatt Adds Zanzibar to List of New Hotels

Where: Shangani Street, Stonetown, Zanzibar, Tanzania

November 12, 2014 at 8:55 AM | by JasonD |
There are many reasons why we’d recommend a trip to Tanzania: the scenery, the wildlife, the outdoor showers, we could go on. And if a trip in your eyes is only complete if it includes some beach time, then the island of Zanzibar (technically an archipelago) is only a short flight away.
From early next year, you can stay at the new Park Hyatt Zanzibar, right on the beach in Stone Town, the historic centre of Zanzibar City. Above a rendering of the 67-room hotel, but you can spy a real-life snap on the hotel’s Facebook page.
While the hotel website is devoid of any interior images, we dug out these two renderings here, where you’ll find a few more. The architecture combines “Arab, Persian, Indian and European elements”, with the hotel “reminiscent of an exclusive Omani residence”. Rooms start around 500 sq ft, and Park View and Park Deluxe rooms will have ocean views. Eleven suites throw in balconies.
This courtyard-like space does look rather pretty, with the water feature and the lanterns (go to the Facebook page to see some stunning photos of lanterns in the hotel). The hotel will have “Zamani Residence”, a dining concept that includes “a residential style kitchen, allowing guests to dine in a variety of different areas”. It covers a library with veranda, a living room, and a dining room with outdoor terrace. There will also be an outdoor infinity pool with lounge and an Anantara Spa.
The other future opening that is listed for next year is Park Hyatt Marrakech (because really, there are so few hotel options there). Above a photo of one of the 44 villas that will be part of the complex, in addition to 131 rooms and suites and a range of dining and leisure facilities you’d expect at this kind of resort, including a golf course.
Oddly absent is Park Hyatt Bangkok, which we showed you earlier this year as in progress on Ploenchit Road, around the corner from cousin Grand Hyatt Erawan. A Facebook page is active though, and talks about the recently opened Central Embassy mall as “soon to be home of Park Hyatt Bangkok”, so we’ll take that as a good sign, but don’t expect anything before later on next year at the earliest. Other openings we’re still waiting on include Além-Tejo (Portugal), Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, and Mumbai (India), Doha (Qatar), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), and St. Georges, Bermuda.
