Mr Vuai Mussa

Zanzibar — THE National Identification Authority (NIDA) has threatened to call-off the issuing of national identification cards (IDs) should people continue causing unnecessary chaos at the centres allocated for the exercise.
"We have received complaints in connection with needless chaos in some centres.
The situation has caused delays. Some people do not want to observe the established guidelines for smooth issuance of the IDs," said Mr Vuai Mussa Vuai Suleiman, the Director of NIDA in Zanzibar.
Mr Vuai's statement came after reports of disorderly behaviour in some centres like Kwamtipura and Chumbuni where people blamed NIDA for poor organisation of the issuance of the eagerly awaited national identity cards.
Mr Vuai told the 'Daily News' yesterday that the exercise which started on September 22, this year, has been going on well, but some people are causing uncalled for chaos because they do not want to follow the established procedures.
He said: "NIDA should not be blamed. We are well organised in all centres where people are polite enough to follow the procedures. There have been no problems in handing out the identification cards."
The director mentioned that the issuance of IDs in the North and South regions of Unguja islands and in many areas of the Urban-West region, Unguja was fine.
The exercise will shift to Pemba Island later. "Our target is to cover the whole of Zanzibar by December 24, this year. We urge people to remain tolerant to enable the exercise to end successfully in time," said Mr Vuai.
According to him, NIDA has allocated a minimum of three days for issuance of IDs in every area. NIDA estimated to register 682,202 adult Tanzanians for the IDs, but only 575,947 people were logged.
"So far we have printed 469,538 IDs for issuance in Zanzibar," he said.
