"We have tips that many women have been registered secretly for employment and other pretexts, but instead end up as commercial sex workers," said Mjaka.Zanzibar Public radio (ZBC) announced that police are seeking help from members of the public to provide information which may lead to the arrest of people recruiting girls for the illegal business.
It is alleged that the number of people engaged in commercial sex have been rising, as tourism business widens in the islands.
This year, the Zanzibar government launched a two-year campaign against violation of the rights of women and children, alongside crackdown of commercial sex, which contributes to the spread of HIV.
