Chairperson: Muhammad Yussuf
Speakers: Mr. Awadh Ali Said and Mr. Ally Saleh
Subject: "The Referendum Act No. 4 of 2014"
Date & Time: Saturday 31 January 2015; at 4:00 pm.

Venue: ZIRPP Office; Third Floor, behind Majestic Cinema (above ZANLINK)
Abstract: At the end of last year, the Constituent Assembly has controversially adopted the so-called Proposed Constitution that is supposed to be submitted to the people for a vote in a referendum scheduled to take place on 30 April 2015 in both parts of the Union.
For the purpose of running the referendum, the Union Parliament has adopted The Referendum Act. No. 4 of 2014 to provide for the legal and institutional framework for the conduct of referendum, to provide for matters by which views of the public shall be ascertained through conduct of a referendum and to provide for other related matters that include the modality for the registration of voters, eligibility of voters, the counting of the votes cast and the announcement of the results.
Importantly, The Referendum Act also provides for the establishment of YES and NO Committees at the national and constituent levels with the modalities for their respective establishment, leadership and source of funding.
As lawyers and former members of the Constitutional Review Commission, Awadh and Ally will attempt to take a thorough view of the Referendum Act and provide their insights on some of the most controversial issues surrounding the Act, as well as sharing their thoughts and perspectives on the way forward.
Tea, Coffee and Snacks will be served freely.
Please forward this message to anybody who may be interested. Those who would like to attend should send their email addresses and telephone numbers to: zirpp@googlegroups.com.
Please confirm your participation.
