“I am proud of my experience and leadership potentials. I am among the few honest and clean party members since I was not involved in any corruption scandal throughout the entire period of my leadership,” said the retired Justice who becomes the 36th aspirant to contest for the post in the party.
He was speaking at the party headquarters in Dodoma yesterday, in a company of less than ten family members including his wife, Saada Ramadhani and his three sons.
Judge Ramadhani who currently serves as Judge of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR) said that he has been pushed by his own capacity to vie for the Presidency and there is nobody behind his move.No one is behind my move…I have been pushed by leadership abilities,” he said insisting not to fear any of the CCM presidential aspirants who had so far picked up the nomination forms.
He said as the retired Brigadier General, he didn’t fear anyone because being a soldier alone means confidence. He called upon Tanzanians to give him chance to lead the nation so that he can help them move from where they are to the next level.
On corruption, he said that once elected the President his government shall eliminate the problem. He said dishonest leaders and public servants proved to be involved in corruption scandals shall be punished according to the existing court laws.
He however noted that being the Deputy Chair of the Constitution Review Commission (CRC) he was optimistic that if ‘Wananchi’ endorsed the proposed constitution then it should be used as the country’s mother law.
“We did our job and was completed by the Constituent Assembly…we are only waiting for the people’s decision through the referendum,” he noted.
The retired Justice noted that he joined CCM in 1969 when he was a third year law student at the University of Dar es Salaam. He said by the time it was a must for graduates to be a party member before joining the National Service scheme.
He started serving as a public servant in 1970 whereas his membership within the party seized in 1992 when the country adopted the multiparty system.
“I seized to be a member in 1992 due to constitutional changes…but regained my membership early in 2011 soon after retiring as the Chief Justice in December 2010,” he said.
He also served as Zanzibar’s Deputy Chief Justice for ten years from 1979 and as the Judge at the Tanzania Court of Appeal for 20 years before President Jakaya Kikwete appointed him as the Chief Justice, the position he served for three and half years only.
Justice Ramadhani was born in Unguja, Zanzibar in December 28th, 1945.
CCM is expected to start the Presidential aspirants’ nomination process on July 08, 2015 to be followed by meetings by the members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and, Central Committee (CC). A successful candidate will be announced during the general meeting scheduled for July 11 to 12, 2012 in Dodoma.
